Pepsi chief again receives $
Roger Enrico, PepsiCo's chairman and chief executive, opted out of his $900,000 salary again last year, requesting the savings be used to help fund scholarships for "front-line" employees.
Mr Enrico, 55 and a PepsiCo veteran, began the practice of being paid a token $1 in 1998 as a way of giving thanks to the "unsung heroes" who make, move and sell Pepsi products.
His decision also comes at a time when executive salaries are soaring to unprecedented heights thanks to a robust US economy and intense competition from internet companies.
Mr Enrico was still very well compensated despite the $1 salary, reflecting a largely favourable performance by PepsiCo in 1999.
